Who We Are –
Central Christian Church was established in 1817 by a
handful of individuals and families living in the Danbury
area. This small, but intrepid, group sought to establish a
Church rooted in the New Testament and free from doctrinal
and dogmatic constraints. For almost 200 years, Central
Christian Church has witnessed to God’s grace and glory in
Danbury. Several ministers and missionaries have arisen
from the Church membership to serve God around the country
and world.
Today the members of Central Christian Church carry on the
vision of these early Church pioneers through worship and
outreach. The congregation engages in ministries in the
Danbury area and beyond to share Christ’s hope and healing.
All are welcome at Central Christian Church. The two simple
requirements for membership are baptism and affirmation of
faith. Baptism at any other Church, whether as an infant or
as an adult, is accepted. Those who have not been
previously baptized and those who would like to be baptized
as an adult are invited to be baptized, generally through
immersion, as was the New Testament custom. During the
invitation hymn of every worship service, we invite all to
come forward who wish to commit or recommit their lives to
Jesus Christ, or who wishes to make Central Christian Church
their spiritual home.
There is no requirement that members ascribe to a particular
doctrine or theology. Each Christian is called to his or
her own faith journey. The members of Central Christian
Church observe two New Testament ordinances: communion and
baptism. At every worship service communion is served.
Everyone is always welcome at the table of Jesus Christ.
Denominational Ties – Our Church is
aligned with two denominational groups: the Christian
Church
(
Disciples of Christ)
and the American
Baptist Churches in the USA. Both
of these groups have a rich history and a belief in baptism
by immersion for those who are old enough to ask for it.
You can find out more about the history and beliefs of the
Disciples of Christ in this video called
A Movement for Wholeness
Locally we relate to the Northeastern
Region of the Disciples of Christ which includes the six New
England States, plus New York and New Jersey. You can find
out more about them by clicking

the American Baptists is called American Baptists in
Connecticut. You can find out more about them by clicking
