A Summer Program for 6th - 8th Graders July 23rd - August 3rd 9am - 4pm Tuition is FREE!!!
The Deep Roots Summer Program is about investing in Danbury’s youth. For two weeks, students entering the 6th - 8th grade will have the opportunity to explore the world of the Bible, themselves, and their community in order to grow “Deep Roots” that will help each student blossom into amazing young people and young leaders.
The Three "Roots" Attendees of Deep Roots will spend two weeks exploring a parable told by Jesus. Through this exploration, students will engage with these three cores of the program:
The Bible - attendees will explore the history and context of one of Jesus' parables found in the Gospel. This will lead to an artistically expressed re-telling or interpretation of the parable.
Attendees will have the privilege to learn more deeply about themselves as individuals. Through games, activities, books, group discussions, interviews and artistic expression, attendees will explore the wisdom they already possess as young adults as well as learn about their cultural and/or ancestral heritage.
Attendees will explore the community in which they live, think about their responsibility to the community, their surroundings, and people around them, and work to create a strong group amongst each other.
Program Activities Most activities of Deep Roots will be centered around bringing one of Jesus' parables to life. These activities will include:
Exploring the words of Jesus and world of the Bible
Local field trips
Cooking & healthy food classes
Learning a variety of prayer practices
Various Art classes
And much more...
The Final Project At the conclusion of the two weeks, students will have the opportunity to share an artistic re-telling or personal interpretation of the parable they engage with over the two weeks. Whether it is a poem, a photograph, an interpretive dance or any other artistic expression, the exploration of the three roots will converge in this retelling in the hopes that the Bible will come alive in a new way for each of the attendees.
