Central Christian strives to be a diverse, creative and spirit-filled church that nurtures and serves our community.
That Central Christian Church will be a great Christian force which brings healing to the human spirit through Scripture and music, to be noted for care, committed in faith, and to be open to all who desire to worship with us.
What We Believe
Here at Central Christian we affirm that Jesus is the Christ, Son of the living God. Outside of that there is no requirement that members ascribe to a particular doctrine or theology. We believe that each Christian is called to their own journey of faith. We simply observe two New Testament ordinances: communion and baptism. We consider ourselves to be a people of the table. Therefore, we celebrate communion every week. We strongly believe that everyone is always welcome at the table of Jesus Christ and this table fellowship has never been missed in our more than 200 year history.
At Central Christian, we believe you will find a church that is...
We are a church that believes in Jesus' radical love ethic and we take his command to "love God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind; and love your neighbor as you love yourself" seriously. We believe that all of God's creation is sacred so we work to not only love those who are inside our church walls, but also the neighborhood and city in which the church resides. We strive to be a place of hope and healing amidst this broken world.
We believe that Jesus is the Christ, Son of the living God. The teachings and lived example of Jesus Christ are of primary importance at Central Christian Church. As followers of Jesus, we strive to learn and embody the Gospel. This means education, justice and discipleship are key components of our faith.
Open to All!!
When we say all, we mean ALL! We believe that following Christ is a journey, not a destination. Therefore, we welcome any and everyone to take part in this journey with us. There is no requirement that anyone ascribe to any particular doctrine or theology, we believe each person is called to his or her own faith journey. Members of Central Christian Church observe two New Testament ordinances: communion and baptism. Whether you would like to become an active member or just dip your toe into Jesus' teachings, we welcome you just as you are.
Central Christian Church is a member of two denominational bodies. We were founded as a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We are one of the oldest Disciples congregations in the country and are the only one in Connecticut. As Disciples we strive to be a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As a part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's table as God has welcomed us. To learn more about the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), visit their website here.
The second denominational body we belong to is the American Baptist Churches USA. American Baptist Churches are missional congregations that nurture devoted disciples of Jesus Christ who live their lives in mission and ministry for the healing of the world through the love of God.
